The Nail Files 8/31

Today I am linking up with Tara and Vicki for the Nail Files.

OPI, I Eat Mainely Lobster

I liked the color that I had on so much last week (Cajun Shrimp) that I wanted to stick to the same color family. I really wanted to do a pink for the last weekend of summer but I think I have done enough pink this summer.

I do not eat Mainely lobster. As a matter of fact, lobster has never passed these lips. I am allergic to seafood.  People are horrified that I live in the seafood capitol and I cant eat it. It doesn't bother me at all. I don't even like the smell of it cooking.

I am definitely sad to see summer go. I will miss all of the fun summer colors.

I am heading into Boston later for some drinks. It is going to be a busy and great weekend. I am sure I will find time to relax too.

Get out there and enjoy this last weekend of summer!
Happy Labor Day!

"It's OK" Thursday 8/30

Its Ok Thursdays

I am linking up again with with Neely: A Complete Waste of Makeup and Amber: Brunch With
Amber Click the button above to visit and link up too!

"Its OK"

- That I actually had to wear a hoodie on my morning walk yesterday. It was that cold.  I am still walking on a regular basis. I am down 7 pounds. 3 more to go.

-That while making my husband his fried food extravaganza last night, I forgot I was doubling the recipe of the batter. I added two cups of flour instead of the four that I was supposed to, but I doubled the salt. I was up at 3am wanting to drink a gallon of water. My daughter loved it anyway so that is good. From now on, I am limiting myself to one cosmo while cooking.

-That I am checking Zillow every day because rumor has it that my next door nudist neighbors are moving.  I will miss your speedo Mr. Nudist (sarcasm).

-That I really had to search at Sephora for something to buy so that I could get my birthday gift from the Sephora insiders club. I have never had trouble finding things at Sephora before. I just really didn't need anything.  I ended up with an eyeliner.
I love these lip balms. It was a great gift.

-That I had a fantastic time with all of my old high school friends last week. I am glad I do not still live in my home town. Most of them still live there and there is still drama. I will just visit occasionally. My 30 year reunion is coming up and I want to throw up just thinking about it.

-That my husband and I were going to have our traditional anniversary meal in Boston this weekend but we have the house to ourselves ALL weekend. We might do different things and save it for next weekend when everyone is around.

-That it is jacuzzi season again and I used a half a jar of bath salts to get color and scent to the water. It still didn't cut it. I have to go to bath and body works. Their stress relief products are the best and I am out of them.

-That my husband is treating me to a mani/pedi today. He told me to get a cute summer color. It will probably be the last time I get a summer color.

-That the girls that work for my husband made a big deal out of my birthday. When I first met one of the girls, my husband asked her the next day "How did you like my wife?", she replied "Better than the husband"(she has a very thick accent and it sounded very funny). She is too cute. They still joke about it at his office.
The girls got this for me in Hong Kong when they went on a business trip. It goes with my flip flop bobby pin holder on my vanity. I sense a theme here.

- That I am heading back to NY next month. I cant wait. This will be a longer trip. I told my husband he is never allowed to go to NY anymore without me.
This may sound sarcastic but it was meant to make my husband smile.

-That this is why I love my husband.

-That I was getting in line to play the numbers game at the grocery store for my husbands birthday yesterday. An older gentleman got there about the same time. I said "By all means, you first, beauty before age".  He liked that and proceeded to chat my ear off. Come to find out, he works in the meat department. I told him from now on if I need something I am going to find him. It is good to have friends in high places.

-That these are a few of my favorite text's from last week.

A text from my middle daughter, the non reader who didn't know what fatiguayed (fatigued) was.

A text from my oldest daughter, letting me know my grand daughter who likes everything just so, is showing neurotic tendencies like her Mimi.

A birthday text from the son I never had.

A few birthday tweets from my middle daughters friends.

I hope everyone enjoys this nice long weekend! I know I will!

Happy birthday!

I have been remiss in mentioning that today is the love of my life's birthday. I have been so busy trying to make this day special for him that I forgot to mention it. I think I succeeded but we will see!
I also want him to know that I saved this picture under "sexy beast". Next week we will celebrate our 27th anniversary. How many people these days can say that? I love this man with all of my heart. He makes my life great and I just hope I do the same for him. Happy birthday honey!  You deserve a happy life! I am off to cook him his favorite football snacks now.
Go Patriots!

What I am loving lately 8/28

for their new link up. Join them and link up what you're loving lately! Whether it's fashion, color, crafts, interiors, beauty products, yummy and delicious, or really anything else.
I wish these ladies success in their link up.

I thought this would be a great link up for me because I have not done a review in awhile. I have tried so many conditioners lately because my hair has been as dry as the Sahara. I went to the beauty supply 3 weeks in a row after work. On my last visit, the girls said "Do you have any questions?" and I said, "Yes, why do I have to come here after work every week? Would you be offended if I didn't come in for another month?" She laughed and proceeded to tell me about the sale at the beginning of September and she said she was sure she would be seeing me. They know me well.

I love each and every one of these products but I will list them starting with the ones that I think have made the biggest difference. My hair is no longer dry.

This is a leave in conditioner. It reminds me of the Dove Oil Spray (that really did nothing for my hair, yes I tried it). You have to shake it up. I love Schwarzkopf products. They are truly superior.

This is a great deep conditioner. It smells great too!

This is a self heating mask. I only use it in the shower. It is not one I would leave on overnight.
These are Wella professional products. Do any of you who are a little older remember the Wella girl with the flower wreath in her hair?  I remember the Wella girl was on the Herbal Essence bottle and I still remember the jingle. I was a product junkie even at the tender age of 8. I used to try out all of the products my sister's would buy (even if they said i couldn't). Wella products have been around for a long time and i just rediscovered them. I am pretty impressed.

I have not tried too many bain de terre products, but I will now. I saw this in the beauty supply ad and it said it was ultra hydrating. It is. At least once a week I sleep with conditioner in my hair. I mix a mask of this product, the Wella deep conditioner from above and K-Pak from Joico. It works great I have to say. You can now light a match near me and I will be fine.

I am also loving my new birthday gift.

I have been wanting one of these for awhile. Thanks honey!

I am now obsessed with monograms and I will be going to visit the craft store today because I have a few monogram craft ideas in mind. Reading all of these crafty blogs has given me some inspiration, so thank you ladies! I also want to participate in my friend Kathe's link up http://www.kathewithane.com/2012/08/youre-gonna-love-it-week-19.html. She has so many crafty friends. I feel so left out.

Last but not least, another favorite birthday gift that I love from my daughter. My new yoga pants. She thought I wouldn't like them because they had lace on the waist band. Does she know me? I love lace.

Sorry about the side way picture, I could not fit it all in. Maybe that means I truly do have a wide load. I will be happy to sport a bumper sticker on my ass for my favorite team. I will always take one for the team.

Every year I visit the Pink store for my new football wear. I love how their clothes are feminine and don't make me look like a boy. I had to go and return the pair of pants my daughter got me and get a size up. Camel toe is not a good look on anybody. I saw SO many cute things I want for this season. I find some of their things tend to run on the small size. It is best to try it on. If you are a football fan like me, you need to check out your local Pink store.

Have a great Tuesday!
I am off for about 14 days. I only work on Monday's and Monday is a holiday. I feel trouble coming on.

The nail files 8/24

Today I am linking up with Tara and Vicki for the Nail Files.

OPI Cajun Shrimp. A classic.

I finally got to use the color Ashley at http://ohwellsinsteadofwhatifs.blogspot.com/
sent me for the Christmas swap i participated in.
(her birthday give away is still going on if you have not entered yet)

I love the color. I may do a summer color the next time I get a manicure then I will be moving on to fall colors. This is a nice in between color.

I also want to wish my "real" son, baby waaa waaa, a very happy 20th birthday!

I was out until 2:00am last night with about 40 of my old high school friends. I am exhausted today so that's all I have for you.

Have a great weekend!

A "novel" idea

I have to give credit where credit is due. I saw this over at Jellibean Journals yesterday and I thought it was a fun idea. http://jellibeanjournals.blogspot.com/2012/08/its-my-birthday-and-ill-blog-if-i-want.html.

She stated a fact for each year of her life. I am 47 as of today so be prepared to read a novel.

If I could go back in time, I would go back to my 30's. I had so much fun back then because I finally came into my own. Gone were the days of being self conscious. I feel like that is when I truly started living my life for me.

Aging is nothing to fear. Except for the whole gravity issue, it just keeps getting better and better.

If i had one pearl of wisdom to share in my oldER age it would have to be to not sweat the small stuff. In the end, does it really matter? Enjoy each day. It is a gift. Unwrap it slowly and enjoy each and every minute. You can never get those minutes back.

Me. Born on August 22, 1965.

Here are my facts:

1. I love my family and my life (most days).

2. I love to bake and cook.

3. I love a clean house and I actually like cleaning.

4. I would go without to make someone else happy.

5. I am a loyal and generous friend.

6. You would know if I didn't like you, I cannot be fake.

7. I am very humble. I like to poke fun at myself.

8. I still cant believe I am a grandmother.

9. I drink my coffee and tea through a straw.

10. I need a nap just about every day.

11. Most nights, I am in bed by 9:00.

12. I will never cut my hair short. It is not a good look for me. I will be the old lady with the long grey braid.

13. I am a leader not a follower.

14. I am not as brand conscious as I was when I was younger.

15. I am happiest when my whole family is at home under my roof. That includes my son in law.

16. I love to sing and I love to dance. I can still drop it like its hot.

17. I can be sarcastic but I try to not do it in a hurtful way.

18. I sometimes wonder if my husband is the only one who thinks I am funny.

19. My kids always wanted me around, even around their friends. I am happy about that..

20. If I chip even one nail, I have to take off all of my polish and do them again.

21. I have been very fortunate to be a stay at home mom all of these years. I work one day a week because I want to. I want to do more but I don't really want to work. Its not because I am lazy.

22. I can still do a cartwheel, a round off and a front walk over. The rest...forget about it.

23. To celebrate the first day of school for my kids, I used to go outside and do cartwheels. Don't judge, summers were long. I also used to sing at the top of my lungs on the night before the first day of school EVERY year, "The sun will come out tomorrow".

24. I have a green thumb. I love to garden indoors and out.

25. I feel best when I can do something unexpected for someone.

26. I find it hard to sit at the salon for over 2 hours. I don't even really like getting my mani/pedi at the same time. That is too long to sit.

27. I never wear sneakers unless I am exercising. I really just started wearing flat shoes last year. I still love my heels.

28. I was more crafty when my kids were little and I had less time.

29. I love to be out and about but deep down, I am a homebody.

30. I love to entertain.

31. I am a procrastinator when it comes to making appointments

32. I am very outgoing but I can be very shy in certain situations. I need time to warm up.

33. Some people say I snore at night. I never used to and I don't believe them.

34. I can name that tune just by hearing a few bars. Any kind of music from any era.

35. I buy myself flowers every week if there aren't any already in my house.

36. I have no tattoos.

37. I have a mole in the shape of Indiana on my back. If you are still reading this novel, bless you. I am totally kidding and I wanted to see if you were paying attention. I feel like I just cheated so I will add the fact that I am a compulsive trash barrel emptier. Two pieces of trash in the barrel....it needs to be emptied.

38. When I hear any kind of patriotic music, I tear up.

39. I really do not consider myself old. Every year I tell myself, when your are such and such an age, you will feel old. I don't yet. Ask me in about 3 years how I feel.

40. Even though I am up at the crack of dawn, it takes me hours to get moving.

41. I will probably never get another job in the beauty industry but I keep my license up just to be able to shop at the beauty supply.

42. I would live in a tent if I had to and give everything to my kids. I would do anything for them.

43.I am pretty good at verbally sparring. I have had many years of practice.  My husband always makes me make those dreaded calls when we need something done because I usually get results. Sometimes I enjoy it but most times I don't.

44. I do not like to drive on the highway. I hate long rides.

45. My most embarrassing moment was when I woke up from fainting in the middle of the aisle on the airplane coming home from meeting my new grand baby. There was a doctor on the plane and she said it was probably a blood pressure issue. That was 19 months ago. Have I ever gone to get it checked? See number 31.

46. I love my husband with all of my heart. It is not a bed of roses all of the time but I think I made an excellent choice. He worships the ground I walk on. I am very proud to call him my husband.

47. I have been so fortunate in life and I am so grateful. I hope every person in my life knows how much I appreciate them. I have 3 beautiful and healthy children and I am so thankful.

Now that you have sat and patiently read all of this, I think you deserve a prize. Go check out these two fabulous ladies blogs and try to win one. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I will leave you with this one last picture. This is from first grade.
Dear Mom, I thought you said you had 20/20 vision? Thanks for making me look like Herman Munster. You know I like things symmetrical so what happened? And what is with the clothes? I know I was'nt trying out for a part on Pirates of the Caribbean so why did you dress me like I was?

Happy birthday to me!

Do you have blog friends like this?

So I am, sitting on my back deck tanning, minding my own business. I see a delivery man walking up my back walk way. He was carrying these for me!
How gorgeous and colorful are these flowers?

My dear friend kathe over at http://www.kathewithane.com/ had them sent to me from thousands of miles away to commemorate my birthday extravaganza week.  I am still so choked up over this wonderful act of kindness that I can barely type. Kathe and I clicked from the start. We are at the same stage in life and have much in common (except she is a great tablesscaper, crafter and a great thrifter) and I am not. I am in awe of her abilities. I am hoping to learn from her.

I am so glad that blogging is part of my life now and that I have had the honor of getting to know Kathe.  I started blogging to record my every day life for my kids and I wound up with a friend for life. The blogging community is a great community. Thank you again Kathe! You are the sweetest!

Be sure to check out kathes blog tomorrow! She is having an unbelievable blog anniversary give away!

My birthday week so far

I have had a great week so far. Wednesday night, my husband and I, had a nice quiet barbecue with some nice steaks and grilled artichokes. My daughter went shopping after work so we had some alone time.

Thursday my husband brought these home for me.

Friday morning when I woke up, my husband asked me if I wanted to come into work with him in Boston. We would take my daughter to lunch and then go out with the kids after work. I would have to occupy myself for a few hours between lunch and happy hour and wait for everyone to be done with work. I was in Boston, of course I could occupy myself. It was a beautiful day. We didn't go into Boston until about 1:00 and we immediately met up with my daughter for lunch. After lunch, they both went back to their offices and left me to my own devices. I of course went shopping. I didn't really buy too much, I just wasn't in the mood. It was fun to look though. When I was done shopping, I got an ice coffee and just sat and people watched. It's so nice to get out of the suburbs once and awhile but I am so glad I am not a part of the rat race. Thanks honey.

The Leonard P. Zakim Bridge. We drive over this to get into the city. I love this bridge. It fascinates me every time. The architecture is amazing.

I really didn't have much time to people watch because it was time to go out for drinks.
We went to a roof top bar that overlooks Boston harbor. It was a beautiful night and we had a great time. My daughter joined us as well.

My daughter's first happy hour in the city after work.

There was a night time cruise leaving the harbor so we had some great people watching. It was a neon cruise. The outfits....well I will let you see for yourself. I do want to know why all of the girls get all dolled up and the boys look like they are going to a sporting event?

I pretended I was texting while meanwhile I was snapping pictures left and right.
According to what I was seeing, my daughters dresses aren't that short after all.

This girl didn't get the memo on what to wear. A leather coat and boots? She must have been sweating, it was pretty hot.

Yes I saved the best for last. The bouncer was talking to these girls because he knew them. The girl talked like Snookie and said she would be back later, she had a "gig". I am going to take a stab at guessing what that gig was (notice the hoola hoop?) ..... I wish I got a picture of her from the front because her whole stomach was covered in body paint.
I told the bouncer he had the best job in the world. He gets to people watch all night. He said it was all fun and games until the end of the night when he sometimes gets in fist fights with drunk boys and girls. Times have sure changed.

On Saturday my daughter took me for a manicure and pedicure. It was a lousy day out so it was the perfect thing to do. I was still tired from the day before. What can I say, I am old.  We went grocery shopping early in the morning so that I wouldn't have to go by myself.  In the afternoon we caught up on all of our favorite shows and napped.

It is a gorgeous day today so I will be walking and trying to get some end of summer sun. I do not feel like going to the outlets at all. It is that glorious out. Later on, is rib fest 2012. I am trying to use up things I have before barbecue season ends. Happy hour will commence around 4. Tomorrow the Patriots play the Philadelphia Eagles. For some reason the Eagles are probably my second favorite team (it could be because of the Mark Wahlberg or as I like to call him "Mahhhky Mahhk"  movie, Invincible). I have 2 more days of pre-birthday festivities. I wonder what it will bring?

Relax and enjoy your Sunday!
