I started my exercise routine a few weeks ago. I did not have a working scale at the time so I did not weigh myself when I started. I hopped on my talking scale yesterday (it just needed fresh batteries)  and lo and behold, I have not lost an ounce! I worked out six days last week. I try and eat a balanced diet without any junk food and plenty of fresh vegetables. What the heck? Then I remembered, muscle weighs more than fat. Maybe I am gaining muscle. I am not discouraged (yet anyway).  It would be nice to drop a few pounds in the process though.  I am trying to tone up this aging body. I am not yet ready to tuck my boobs into my socks.

After I got over the initial achy feeling that you get when starting a new exercise routine, my body felt better. I have been sleeping like a baby. No more waking up hourly. I have more stamina. When I lie on the couch all day, I am lazy. When I work out in the morning, I come home and I just want to be active. I get so much more done. It makes me feel better about myself.
I am definitely one of those people who "go hard or go home". Once I start something, I go all out. The problem is if I stop, it is so hard for me to re-start. I am forcing myself through these first few weeks so that it just becomes part of my routine.

I have even gotten my husband to work out with me at times. He works from home almost all of the time. He will sometimes take a break to go on a walk. It's good for him. He needs to get up and move around and not be attached to his laptop. We are not spring chickens anymore. It is more of a health thing than a vanity thing. It might be a little bit of a vanity thing for me. I am NEVER going to give up. I will not be relegated to shopping in the Brigg's department of Macy's because I was too lazy. I  will not wear polyester stretch pants because I couldn't resist the queso, then have to lie on the couch in a queso coma watching Bad Girls Club. That could easily be my future if I let myself go. I shudder at the thought.
I have plenty of time on my hands and I still have energy so why not be active? I have never been a lazy person and I am sure not going to start now.

This was yesterday's walk. I use this app on my iPhone to keep me motivated. It is just a simple pedometer app. I am also looking into adding hand weights/gloves.

I am going to use this post as a motivational tool for myself when I start to tell myself "you can take a break today". Hopefully it will help.

On another note,  I am off to the airport in about an hour and a half to pick up my favorite little princess. Lord knows I need energy for her. She is so active. I am so excited to see her. I just hope my daughter brings the jogging stroller so I can take my favorite baby with me on my walks. Just hearing her giggle will give me all of the motivation I need to continue on my quest for a healthier lifestyle.
Have a good day!

  1. I used to be so fit, but I'm in a bit of an exercise slump at the moment. I guess I need the motivation too!

Really enjoy your blog. I'm a new follower on GFC, hope you'll drop by blog and say hello sometime :)

  2. Hey, that's just awesome!! And, so glad you roped your husband in too!! And, thanks for the promise not to wear polyester stretch pants!! Those are so ugh!!!!

  3. Agree! Although I, jokingly, refer to myself as a regular ole Aunt Bea kinda gal I will not be into poly, elastic waisted pants! I may have a more than a few years on me but I am not old LOL! I am so looking for that app Laura! I would have never thought to look on my phone for one! And Yippee! Your girls will be there/ are there!!! Have fun and be sure to post pictures of that baby doll!

  4. You are awesome!! Have fun with the princess!

  5. You might see your body firm up a bit before the pounds come off. Once you get your metabolism up, you'll burn more calories and it will be a beautiful cycle of exercise and energy. I always feel better after a workout. The harder it is, the better I feel. That's great you're getting your husband makes you and him more accountable. Have fun with it and enjoy your time with your daughter and those baby jogs :)
